What Is Photography Luck?

Success

I think most successful people are loathe to admit how lucky they are. It’s that uniquely American myth about self-reliance and “picking yourself up by the bootstraps” blah blah blah. It comes down to ego I think. Successful people want to believe they did it all themselves, which is no doubt partly true….but just partly.

What to Bring When Traveling

I recently went on vacation to Paris and some locations outside of the city. I brought 2 completely different camera systems in order to see for myself which one was better suited for travel. Focal Length, Aperture and BOKEH

Geeking Out

For any given scene, varying the focal length yields different perceived foreground / background distance, even though the actual distance remains the same. I was curious to see if varying the focal length would affect the amount of background blur, known as BOKEH. I created a tutorial video to demonstrate the test and show the results:

I’m Glad I Take Crappy Photos

Making Crappy Photos Is Better Than Making None

I’ve been going through this depressing period in my photography where I just don’t feel like shooting anything. I didn’t really know why, but it was really bothering me. Somehow I SHOULD always be ready to shoot stuff, no matter what…except I didn’t even want to LOOK at my camera.

Photoshop Elements 12 vs Photoshop CC

Which should you get?

Photoshop Elements 12 (PSE), or Photoshop CC (PS)? Adobe is now offering Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 for @ $10/mo. That makes Photoshop affordable. It makes the decision as to which way to go much more difficult.
