About This Site
My name is Gary and I created this website. The site is my attempt to pass along the things I’ve learned, and continue to learn, about photography. With the exception of some classes and tours I offer, everything on this site is free. I make no claims as to the quality or usefulness of the content. I hope the site is useful.
What’s The Deal With this Site?
This site serves 2 purposes. First, it is meant to be useful to other folks who are exploring photography. I didn’t realize when I began creating a photography-based website that there are literally thousands of similar sites. Oh well. 🙂 At any rate, this site is my humble contribution to photography. As I grow in knowledge and skill, so too does the information on this site.
Secondly, there is a lot of information that dovetails from the classes I teach through the Monmouth County Park System, on both the camera and software apps like Photoshop, Lightroom, and Photoshop Elements. Many of the tutorial videos I create are specifically designed to go along with those classes. I decided to make them available online to anyone, not just the students in my classes. Why? Good question….and the answer is complicated.
Number one, it keeps me honest. If I present bad information, people on the web have no qualms about correcting me. 🙂 Also, it keeps me on my toes. I can’t get lazy and not shoot regularly because I need to keep my classes fresh and interesting. I was hoping at some point to get enough site visitors so I could eventually monetize the site, but that seems unrealistic at this point. Really, I just enjoy teaching and talking about photography! So this site gives me an outlet. Maybe I’ll figure out a way to make money from it at some point, but for now it remains a source of free information. You be the judge as to how valuable that info is.
Navigating the Site
Most everything on this site is in the form of either a written article or a tutorial video. There are links at the top which should be self-explanatory. There are other ways to navigate the site though; you can click on a word in the “tag cloud” on the right of every page, for example. This will result in a listing of articles that contain that word, or tag.
There is also a list of categories on the right….same idea…..click on a category and a list of article pertaining to that category will appear. Lastly, there’s the “Archive”, in which all articles are organized by date. This is probably the least helpful, especially if you’re new to the site and have no clue when I wrote on a specific topic.
